Chris Rock has become the latest celebrity to announce a COVID-19 infection.
“Hey guys I just found out I have COVID, trust me you don’t want this,” Rock tweeted Sunday. “Get vaccinated.”
Rock, 56, has a home in Alpine. His COVID-19 case is a breakthrough one, meaning he tested positive and developed symptoms after being fully vaccinated.
During an appearance on “The Tonight Show” in May, the actor and comedian told Jimmy Fallon that he had received the one-dose Johnson & Johnson/Janssen COVID-19 vaccine.
“You know, I skipped the line, too, to get my vaccine,” Rock said. “I didn’t care. I used my celebrity, Jimmy. I didn’t care. I was like, ‘Hey, step aside, Betty White. Step aside, old people. Judge Judy, kiss my ass. I did “Pootie Tang.” Let me in the front of the line.’ I was like Billy Zane on the Titanic.”
In 2001, Rock and then-wife Malaak Compton bought a $3 million Alpine home, which they shared with daughters Lola and Zahra.
Rock said in his 2018 Netflix comedy special “Tamborine” that when he split from Compton — they are divorced — he bought a house “around the corner” to be near his daughters, now in their teens. He told The Hollywood Reporter that he learned to swim during the pandemic and could finally use his New Jersey pool.
High-profile breakthrough cases of COVID-19 continue to fill headlines. Talk show host Wendy Williams, who grew up in Ocean Township, announced Wednesday that the new season of her show would be delayed because she had tested positive for COVID-19 after being fully vaccinated.
