As promised, Justin Bieber has dropped not simply a new single, but a music video in which the singer squares up to fight, a fitting tribute to everyone who had their ass absolutely kicked by 2020. Bieber dropped the track and accompanying video at midnight, January 1, after premiering it during his T-Mobile Presents New Year’s Eve Live With Justin Bieber on Thursday night. “Oh yeah I’m performing my new single #ANYONE during #BieberNYE, tomorrow night“ he tweeted Wednesday.

The video, directed by Colin Tilley, has the singer going full Rocky for Zoey Deutch’s Adrian, running on the beach, drinking raw eggs, falling in love, and, of course, walloping his opponent. “I can’t think of a better way to close out 2020 and kick off 2021 than celebrating with my fans all over the world and sharing this new music with them,” Bieber said in a news release posted by Billboard. “Music has gotten us all through so much this year, and for me personally it’s been healing and transformative.” Check out the “Anyone” music video below.

MF DOOM, Intricate And Enigmatic Rapper And Producer, Dead At 49 - NPR

Daniel Dumile, the rapper and producer best known as MF DOOM, died Oct. 31, 2020, according to a message posted on his Instagram account by his wife Jasmine Dumile on Dec. 31. No cause of death was given. He was 49 years old.

Jasmine Dumile's post reads:

Begin all things by giving thanks to THE ALL!

To Dumile

The greatest husband, father, teacher, student, business partner, lover and friend I could ever ask for. Thank you for all the things you have shown, taught and given to me, our children and our family. Thank you for teaching me how to forgive beings and give another chance, not to be so quick to judge and write off. Thank you for showing how not to be afraid to love and be the best person I could ever be. My world will never be the same without you. Words will never express what you and Malachi mean to me, I love both and adore you always. May THE ALL continue to bless you, our family and the planet.

Born Jan. 9, 1971 in London and raised on Long Island, N.Y., Dumile first rapped under the alias Zev Love X with the group KMD in the late '80s. The group released two albums: 1991's Mr. Hood and Black Bastards, which was completed in 1993 but was not released until 2001. Hip-hop journalist Andrew Nosnitsky called the latter "a rare lost masterpiece. "

Inspired by the Marvel character Dr. Doom, he rechristened himself MF DOOM and released the self-produced Operation: Doomsday in 1999. He spit bars with playful and twisted intricacy, grounded by his own classic soul- and funk-sampling production.

YouTube

In the 2000s, several more solo records (the instrumental Special Herbs series, 2004's MM..FOOD and 2009's Born Like This), collaborations (Madvillainy with Madlib, The Mouse and the Mask with Danger Mouse) and additional aliases (among them, Viktor Vaughn and King Geedorah) quickly followed, spun from a seemingly limitless creative mind. He also produced tracks for Ghostface Killah and MF Grimm.

Like the comic-book characters he emulated, MF DOOM disguised his identity by performing behind a mask.

"It's really just another character," he told writer David Ma around the release of 2009's Born Like This. "Zev Love X was a character too, most people think that's me but he wasn't. They've all been characters. The DOOM thing is to be able to come at things with a different point of view. I decided the mask would just add to the mystique of the character as well as make DOOM stand out. I though it'd be an easy way for people to see and differentiate between characters, sorta like when an actor gains weight for a role. Throwing on the mask was just a good way to switch it up."

But mostly, as he told Day to Day in 2003, "The music first, then everything else. You won't see me on the cover of an album with tattoos or a big gold chain; none of that."

MF DOOM returned to London in 2010, explaining to The Guardian, "I spent 35 years growing up in the U.S., and it had its ups and downs, but this is a new place for me. I have no friends here apart from the dudes at my record label, and I didn't go to school with no one. Nobody knows me – I'm incognito. It's all new, all fun."

His output continued, but at a slower pace. MF DOOM released Key to the Kuffs as JJ DOOM, with producer Jneiro Jarel providing a far more spacious palette for DOOM to stretch out. But in collaborations with Bishop Nehru, Czarface and Westside Gunn, you heard sparring partners in awe of the master, as old sparks found new sounds.

Upon the announcement of his death, tributes from peers and admirers poured in. Posting an image from 2004's Madvillainy, Flying Lotus wrote, "All u ever needed in hip hop was this record. Sorted. Done. Give it to the f****** aliens."

Kenny Beats, a producer indebted to MF DOOM's idiosyncratic boom-bap style, tweeted: "I heard that some authors rewrote entire novels by the greats just to see how it felt. Denzel [Curry] and I made UNLOCKED talking about DOOM every single day just trying to channel an ounce of the feeling."

Tyler, The Creator, who flipped out like a fanboy the first time he met MF DOOM, kept it simple: "safe travels villain."

MF Doom, masked rapper known for complex lyrics, dies at 49 - Associated Press

LOS ANGELES (AP) — MF Doom, a masked rapper who awed hip-hop fans and fellow musicians with intricate wordplay, has died. He was 49.

The British-born rapper rarely appeared in public in recent years without his signature mask, modeled after the Marvel Comics villain Doctor Doom. His death was confirmed Thursday by Doom’s representative, Richie Abbott. Jasmine Dumile said in a statement that her husband — whose real name is Daniel Dumile — died Oct. 31.

The cause of death has not been released.

Jasmine Dumile posted a photo of the rapper and a heartfelt message on his Instagram pag e. She called him the “greatest husband” and father and thanked him for showing her how not to be “afraid to love.”

“Thank you for teaching me how to forgive beings and give another chance, not to be so quick to judge and write off,” she wrote. “My world will never be the same without you.”

Dumile was born in London and raised in New York. He began his rap career in the late 1980s under the name Zev Love X as part of the group KMD, which included his younger brother DJ Subroc.

The group released two albums: “Mr. Hood” in 1991 and “Black Bastards” two years later. Subroc died shortly before the release of the second album.

Dumile took a step back from the public eye, then returned in the late 1990s under his MF Doom persona. In 1999, he released his self-produced debut album “Operation: Doomsday.”

Dumile released six studio albums under different stage names, including King Geedorah and Viktor Vaughn. He collaborated with producer Madlib on the 2004 album “Madvillainy,” which was considered his most celebrated release.

Dumile’s last solo studio album, “Born Like This,” was released in 2009. His most recent album was a 2018 collaboration with the group Czarface: “Czarface Meets Metal Face.”

Dumile’s death, three years after the death of his 14-year-old son, shocked the hip-hop world. “Someone just stabbed all my chakras,” rapper Pharoahe Monch wrote on Instagram. “I’m angry. I’m hollering and I’m crying.”

“RIP to another Giant your favorite MC’s MC .. MF DOOM!! crushing news...,” producer and rapper Q-Tip wrote on social media.

Music industry executive Dante Ross, who signed KMD to its first record deal, said Dumile’s “life force was a metaphor for black men in this world. You took all the (bad things) sent your way and created beautiful art with it. Tragedy was your fuel for reinvention.”

Behind the theatrics of the mask was a technically proficient lyricist. With a monotone delivery that concealed deceptively complex lyrics and rhyme schemes, Doom evolved into a wordsmith that hip-hop’s top lyricists deeply admired. Each verse could require multiple listens to decipher the hidden or multiple meanings of words.

In an interview last year with Spin magazine, Dumile compared his songwriting to “gymnastics on paper” and achieving “triple word scores” in Scrabble.

“How many words repeat in a bar, or two bars? How many syllables can you use that still make sense in a song?” Dumile said. “The quality of the rhyming word: phonetically, how the tone is, in the pronunciation of the word. Regardless of language ... As long as the word itself rhymes, you still get points for that word. ... How many references can you cross and still stay on topic? And still rhyme? The more complex the subject matter and wordplay is, that’s where you get your points. I’m a rhymer, so I go for points.”

Bidens honor frontline workers in NYE address: 'We owe them, we owe them, we owe them' | TheHill - The Hill

President-elect Joe BidenJoe BidenTrump to cut Florida trip short, return to Washington on Thursday Intel vice chair says government agency cyber attack 'may have started earlier' Trump administration declassifies unconfirmed intelligence on China bounties on US forces in Afghanistan: report MORE and his wife Dr. Jill Biden honored frontline workers in a New Year's Eve address Thursday during ABC's "New Year’s Rockin’ Eve" broadcast from Times Square.

The program's host Ryan Seacrest asked Biden and the future first lady what they would like to say to frontline workers present in New York City and around the nation who have worked to battle the coronavirus pandemic this year.

“My mother used to have an expression," Biden said. “Bravery resides in every heart and someday it’ll be summoned. [In] the people we're honoring tonight, it was summoned and they stepped up and they're brave, they did so much,” the president-elect said to Seacrest.

“They risked their lives, they've done so much for us and we owe them, we owe them, we owe them," added Biden.

"We're so grateful for everything they did. You know, they left their families and their homes so that we could be safe and I — all Americans truly appreciate what they did for us," added Jill Biden.

Health care workers have consistently been at the forefront pandemic, and many nurses, doctors and hospital staff have lost their lives to the disease.

The Bidens' address comes as the coronavirus continues to ravage the United States. The country has recorded over 19 million coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, and over 344,000 deaths, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) earlier this month approved both the Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna vaccines for emergency use, and the federal government has worked to administer the vaccines to protect those most at risk including frontline health care workers.

However, it appears that the Trump administration will not achieve its goal of vaccinating 20 million people by the end of 2020.

A Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) tracker shows that only about 2 million people have received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine. On Thursday afternoon, Anthony FauciAnthony FauciMore contagious coronavirus variant found in California, governor says US hits new daily high with 3,725 coronavirus deaths Pace of vaccinations falls short of estimates, prompting alerts MORE, the nation's top infectious disease expert said that the vaccine rollout was "disappointing."

Biden himself hit the administration over the vaccine rollout Tuesday, saying that the plan to deliver the vaccines was "falling far behind."

Seacrest asked the president-elect for his hopes ahead of the new year.

"I'm more optimistic about America's chances than I've ever been and I've been around this for a while," said Biden.

"We have the most productive workers in the world. We've now found vaccines that are available, and they're going to work if people can just have to get a better way to getting more out there quicker. I find that we're in a situation where we once again have to step up and make the world and lead the nation."

He added, "Americans can do anything and I am absolutely, positively, confident — confident — we're going to come back and come back even stronger than we were before."

"Things are gonna get better, America," Jill Biden said as their address ended.

"Keep the faith," urged Joe Biden.

Danny Masterson harassment suit must go through Scientology mediation, judge rules - NBC News

LOS ANGELES — The stalking and intimidation cases brought by four women who have accused TV actor Danny Masterson of rape must now go through mediation within the Church of Scientology, a Los Angeles judge ruled Wednesday.

The ruling comes just days before Masterson's scheduled arraignment on three charges of rape between 2001 and 2003. In early November, that hearing was set for Jan 6.

On Wednesday, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Steven Kleifield ruled that the harassment complaint from Chrissie Carnell Bixler, her husband, musician Cedric Bixler-Zavala, Marie Bobette Riales and two Jane Does must be settled by the Church in "religious arbitration," since an arbitration agreement already exists among the parties that compels disputes to be handled by the Church of Scientology.

The August 2019 suit alleged the plaintiffs had been stalked and intimidated by the church's agents after going to the police to report the allegations. Carnell Bixler has alleged that Masterson repeatedly sexually assaulted her while they were dating in 2001 and 2002. Bixler-Zavala alleged that "agents of the defendants" assaulted them by means including poisoning their dogs, assaults using automobiles and harassing phone calls.

Jane Doe #1 also alleged harassment by property damage, threats of violence, assaults and sexual harassment as retribution for reporting her alleged rape to police. Jane Doe #2 was also part of the lawsuit that alleged infliction of emotional distress, stalking and invasion of privacy by the defendants.

Masterson's attorney Andrew Brettler said, "This was absolutely the correct result. We look forward to arbitrating the claims, as the Court directed."

A decision was not made on the claims by Bobette Riales, who was not a member of the church and thus not subject to the arbitration agreement.

A status conference on the arbitration was set by the court for June 30.

NYPD releases video it says shows woman attacking Black musician's son after falsely accusing him of stealing her iPhone - CNN

The video was tweeted late Wednesday by NYPD Chief of Detectives Rodney Harrison, who wrote: "The woman in this video falsely accused an innocent 14-year-old teenager of stealing her cellphone. She then proceeded to physically attack him and fled the location before police officers arrived on scene."
The video includes an image of the woman above the word "Wanted."
The tweet comes days after award-winning jazz trumpeter Keyon Harrold posted his own phone video showing the woman making claims against his son on Saturday at the Arlo SoHo boutique hotel.
Police previously told CNN they know the identity of the woman and wanted to speak with her about the incident. The NYPD would not comment on whether she is wanted for questioning or whether charges are forthcoming.
Harrison tweeted the clip with multiple hotel camera angles, showing a woman in a light-colored cap rushing at someone who appears to be Harrison's son in a red cap. The woman grabs him by the waist and the two fall to the floor.
CNN has requested the unedited video from both the NYPD and the Arlo Hotel and both declined to provide a copy.
Harrold and his son are Black and were guests at the hotel in lower Manhattan. The ethnicity of the woman in the video is not clear, although New York police described her as White.
Harrold's video of the encounter has been widely shared on social media, prompting an outcry about what many felt was yet another incident of racial profiling against Black men. The hotel apologized and called the woman's behavior a "baseless accusation, prejudice and assault against an innocent guest."
Harrold said in an Instagram post that he and his son had left their hotel room to get breakfast when they encountered the woman.
The parents of the teenager, Keyon Harrold Jr., and their attorney Ben Crump said Wednesday they were meeting with the Manhattan District Attorney's Office. They told CNN's Don Lemon that the DA told them the video is worse than what the father posted on Instagram on Sunday.
The parents and their lawyer contend the incident was a racially motivated, but the NYPD said Tuesday it is not being investigated as a bias crime.
After viewing surveillance video, investigators are considering charging the woman with assault and possibly grand larceny or attempted robbery, Harrison said Tuesday.
The woman's phone was returned to her at the hotel moments after the incident by a ride-share vehicle she used before trying to check in to the hotel, according to Harrison.
The woman has not come forward, but CNN on Tuesday was the first news organization to talk to her by phone. She disputed Harrold's account of what happened.
While the 22-year-old woman claimed she was assaulted during the altercation, CNN hasn't been able to corroborate her account with investigators or with the hotel where the incident took place.
In a 20-minute phone interview in which she acted erratically and was rambling at times, she said the incident unfolded after she first demanded to see the hotel's surveillance video to try to pinpoint who may have taken her phone.
She says she then asked someone else in the hotel lobby to "empty their pocket," before ultimately confronting Keyon Harrold Jr., who she maintained had her phone in his pocket.
"That's when everything got a little bit more serious," the woman said referring to the interaction.
The woman said she would be willing to cooperate, speak with the NYPD and the Harrold family. CNN has made repeated and unsuccessful attempts to contact the woman since Tuesday.

MF DOOM, Elusive Bard of Hip-Hop, Dead at 49 - Rolling Stone

MF DOOM, the mysterious rapper known for impossibly intricate rhyme schemes and his signature mask, has died at the age of 49. The rapper’s death was first announced by his wife, Jasmine, on his Instagram page. Richie Abbott, MF DOOM’s rep, confirmed his death to Rolling Stone. A cause of death was not immediately disclosed. Abbott confirmed that the rapper, whose real name was Daniel Dumile, died on October 31st of this year, but Dumile’s family did not disclose news of his death until Thursday evening.

“The greatest husband, father, teacher, student, business partner, lover and friend I could ever ask for,” Dumile’s wife, Jasmine, wrote. “Thank you for all the things you have shown, taught and given to me, our children and our family. Thank you for teaching me how to forgive beings and give another chance, not to be so quick to judge and write off.”

“All u ever needed in hip-hop was this record,” Flying Lotus tweeted alongside the album cover to Madvillainy, Dumile’s 2004 album with Madlib. “My soul is crushed.”

“RIP to another Giant your favorite MC’s MC .. MF DOOM!! crushing news…,” Q-Tip tweeted, while El-P wrote, “He was a writer’s writer. Grateful I got to know you a little, king. Proud to be your fan. Thank you for keeping it weird and raw always. You inspired us all and always will.”

Dumile was born in London in 1971 and moved to Long Island, NY with his family early in his childhood. He started performing as a teenager under the name Zev Love X as part of the hip-hop group KMD, which he started with his younger brother DJ Subroc. The group released their critically acclaimed debut — 1991’s Mr. Hood — and were recording their follow-up Black Bastards when Subroc was killed in a car accident in 1993.

Following his brother’s death, Dumile disappeared from public life, only to re-emerge in the late 1990s at the Nuyorican Poets’ Cafe in Manhattan where he performed, unannounced, wearing a stocking over his face. The concern with anonymity would become a calling card, as Dumile adopted various means of subterfuge, most notably adorning what would become his signature mask modeled after the Marvel villain Doctor Doom.

In 1999, he released his debut as MF DOOM, Operation: Doomsday, setting the stage for a spree of releases under a range of different monikers (alongside numerous other tracks and beat compilations) as well as a trail of collaborations and inspirations left in his wake. As a musician, DOOM’s wit and intellect outpaced the world around him. It was the controversial album art for KMD’s record Black Bastards — a reinterpretation of the Sambo trope being lynched — that resulted in the group being dropped by their label, notwithstanding the cover’s artistic merit.

Dumile’s 2004 collaboration with the equally enigmatic producer Madlib would solidify his position as an otherworldly soothsayer. Under the name Madvillain, the duo released Madvillainy, a record so dense with concepts that it still stands as an example of the dexterity and endurance of rap as a medium. That same year, Mm..Food took DOOM’s penchant for storytelling to the masses. The record displayed DOOM’s almost-delirious ability to create endless and playful metaphors about niche interests like snacks and food, turning them into near-existential concerns.

He would follow up Madvillainy with several releases in the span of a few years, including The Mouse and the Mask with Danger Mouse, Born Like This and more releases in his prolific instrumental beat series Special Herbs. By 2009, MF DOOM and his various pseudonyms released six full-length albums.

Beyond his official releases, MF DOOM’s impact on music is hard to overstate. As a producer, he was nimble and fleet, repurposing various ephemera of pop culture for gloom-filled autopsies of the human condition. As a lyricist, he was uncompromising,  representing a kind of introspection that at once dug inward and maintained a perspective 10,000 feet above it all. He mined America’s myths around Blackness to investigate a larger truth. The young rappers he inspired, from the brash ethos of groups like Odd Future to the boisterous rockstar energy of Playboi Carti, operate on a framework for Black liberation mapped out by MF DOOM’s monotone treatises. (Safe travels villain,” Tyler, the Creator tweeted.)

All this while navigating personal tragedy. In 2017, he announced the death of his son Malachi, yet another major loss the rapper suffered through the course of his career. Still, the output remained steady. Through the past several years, it wasn’t uncommon to see a new MF DOOM feature or single pop up. Earlier this month, he was featured on a track with BADBADNOTGOOD called “The Chocolate Conquistadors,” as part of Rockstar Games’ expansion of the GTAV universe.

“Thank you for showing how not to be afraid to love and be the best person I could ever be. My world will never be the same without you,” his wife’s statement continues. “Words will never express what you and Malachi mean to me, I love both and adore you always. May THE ALL continue to bless you, our family and the planet.”

Phyllis McGuire of 1950s singing trio the McGuire Sisters dies aged 89 - Daily Mail

The McGuire Sisters star Phyllis McGuire dead at 89: Singer who had infamous affair with mob boss Sam Giancana passes away in Las Vegas

Phyllis McGuire of the 1950s singing trio the McGuire Sisters died this Tuesday aged 89 at her sprawling mansion in Las Vegas.

She was the youngest and last surviving member of the group, dying exactly two years and one day after her sister Christine.

The Palm Eastern Mortuary confirmed her death to the New York Times on New Year's Eve without stating a specific cause.

She and her sisters were a showbiz sensation - but their squeaky clean all-American image was tarnished by Phyllis' affair with notorious mafioso Sam Giancana.

Phyllis was born on Valentine's Day 1931 and was only four years old when she began singing with her sisters Dorothy and Christine while they grew up in small-town Ohio.

They performed at the church where their mother Lillie served as a minister and then broke out into such venues as military bases during World War II.

However the year they became stars was 1952 - they got a record deal with Coral and got a rapturous audience response to their shot on Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts.

That year Phyllis tied the knot with a radio personality called Neal Van Ells, but the marriage had fallen apart by 1956.

The McGuire Sisters' biggest hit recordings were Sugartime, Sincerely and Picnic, all released during the middle part of the 1950s.

With their coordinated costumes and choreography, they became regular favorites on the variety TV circuit including The Ed Sullivan Show.

Her troubles began one night in 1959 when she was at the Desert Inn in Las Vegas for a singing engagement with her sisters.

Sam Giancana saw her onstage and fell for her, instructing the pit boss to 'eat the marker' on the thousands of dollars of debt she owed at the blackjack tables.

Their sizzling romance became the stuff of infamy, throwing up roadblocks in the McGuire Sisters' career during the 1960s.

'When I met him I did not know who he was, and he was not married and I was an unmarried woman, and according to the way I was brought up there was nothing wrong with that. And I didn't find out until sometime later really who he was, and I was already in love,' Phyllis insisted to Barbara Walters decades later.

She tried to leave him 'a couple of times' as 'it was really hurting the career and it was really breaking my parents' heart, and I also had an ultimatum from my sister's husband that if this didn't end that the trio would be over. So that was very painful for me to think of, and so I tried twice but it didn't work.'

At one point she and Sam disembarked a plane in Chicago, the site of his mob operation, and were ambushed by the FBI.

To avoid facing a subpoena Phyllis consented to be interviewed right then, and while she was taken off separately Sam was stuck holding her handbag, much to the amusement of the agents who were standing by.

'I know all about the Kennedys and Phyllis knows a lot more about the Kennedys and one of these days we are going to tell all,' he thundered according to the FBI report.

During the Kennedy administration Sam was part of a CIA plot to assassinate Fidel Castro. Sam and the American president also had a mutual mistress, Judith Exner.

In 1963 Phyllis had a small part in the movie Come Blow Your Horn which was led by the erstwhile Kennedy pal Frank Sinatra.

'He is the most talented but most contradictory person. He has surrounded himself with an entourage who yes him to death. How can you expand yourself surrounded by yes-men?' she told Dominick Dunne of Vanity Fair in the late 1980s.

'I've stayed in his house, and he has bored me to death. He tells the sa-a-ame stories he's been telling for years, and all I ever heard were his records, which he played over and over again,' she recalled.

By the late 1960s the McGuire Sisters were kaput, giving a farewell performance on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1968 and then breaking up.

Dorothy and Christine receded from public life entirely to become homemakers but Phyllis carried on a solo career as a live singing act.

'Oh, we lost our confidence at different times - me less than Dorothy and Christine. Dorothy got married. Christine got married. They had guilt trips thinking they should be home with their children,' she dished to Dominick.

A year before the group broke up she had bought her 55,000 square foot Las Vegas estate with money she attributed to her oil and gas investments.

Her embellishments included swan-shaped gold bathroom fixtures, a 19th century chandelier, a swan moat and a replica of the Eiffel Tower that went 45 feet high.

Phyllis spent a long time involved with 'Tiger Mike' Davis, who had risen from a chauffeur to an oil and gas tycoon and was known as the 'world's grumpiest boss.'

She was still running around with Sam Giancana when she first attracted the attention of Tiger Mike in the 1960s.

The situation was so alarming to her that she once told Mike: 'You better stay away from me. Do you want to end up on the bottom of Lake Mead?'

Phyllis, who was friends with Mike's first wife Helen Bonfils, had a lengthy romance with him but they never married and she never had children.

All gone: Dorothy eventually died in 2012 at the age of 84 and Christine, who was the eldest of the trio, followed six years later at the age of 92; the three sisters are pictured in 1997

She reunited onstage with Dorothy and Christine in 1986 for a series of sporadic public appearances into the early 21st century.

In 1995 Phyllis was played by Mary Louise Parker in an HBO movie about the Giancana affair called Sugartime, after the hit McGuire Sisters record.

Dorothy eventually died in 2012 at the age of 84 and Christine, who was the eldest of the trio, followed six years later at the age of 92.

Phyllis told Vanity Fair in the 1980s: 'I don't fear living, and I don't fear dying. You only live once, and I'm going to live it to the fullest, until away I go.'

Alexander Wang Responds to Assault Allegations - The New York Times

A model alleged he was groped by Mr. Wang, setting off a wave of accusations against the fashion designer. “I never engaged in the atrocious behavior described,” Mr. Wang said.

This week, Owen Mooney, a male model and graphic designer, said that he was groped by Alexander Wang, an influential fashion designer, in a New York City nightclub in 2017.

Mr. Mooney made the accusations in a pair of videos he posted on social media. Soon after, further allegations of sexual assault and nonconsensual encounters were made against the 37-year-old designer, posted by Instagram accounts that did not identify the accusers.

Today, after days of silence, Mr. Wang responded to the claims — and the barrage of criticism he has faced online.

“Over the last few days, I have been on the receiving end of baseless and grotesquely false accusations,” the designer wrote in a statement sent to The New York Times. “These claims have been wrongfully amplified by social media accounts infamous for posting defamatory material from undisclosed and/or anonymous sources with zero evidence or any fact-checking whatsoever."

The allegations were compiled and reposted on Instagram by two accounts with large followings that have established themselves as fashion industry watchdogs: Diet Prada, run by Tony Liu and Lindsey Schuyler, and another account dedicated to exposing the inner workings of the modeling industry. The New York Times has not independently corroborated the allegations. Mr. Mooney did not respond to requests via email and direct message for comment.

In 2019, Azealia Banks — a rapper and songwriter who is a former muse and collaborator of Mr. Wang’s — shared a series of anonymous accounts on her Instagram stories of allegations of groping by the designer. In 2017, a person named Nick Ward posted a Twitter thread that claimed Mr. Wang grabbed his genitals at a Brooklyn concert.

In his videos, which were initially posted on TikTok and then widely shared on other platforms, Mr. Mooney said that stories told by others prompted him to go public with his claims. His first TikTok video, made as part of a current meme which asks users to share weird celebrity sightings, described the incident.

“I was by myself at one point and this guy next to me obviously took advantage of the fact that no one could move, and just started touching me up, like, fully up my leg, in my crotch,” Mr. Mooney said (with one obscenity). “And then I looked to my left to see who it was and it was a really famous fashion designer and I just couldn’t believe that he was doing that to me.”

After scores of commenters responded to his video by naming Mr. Wang, Mr. Mooney posted a second video confirming the speculation. “People with this kind of status, they think their power gives them a pass to do this to people,” he said in a second video, referring to Mr. Wang. “It’s so wrong. Any time I see his name mentioned, it just reminds me of what he did.”

In his statement, Mr. Wang said that “seeing these lies about me being perpetuated as truths has been infuriating.”

“I never engaged in the atrocious behavior described and would never conduct myself in the manner that’s been alleged,” he continued. “I intend to get to the bottom of this and hold accountable whoever is responsible for originating these claims and viciously spreading them online.”

On Monday, Mr. Wang’s Instagram account turned off the ability to comment on his latest post. The official Instagram account for his brand did the same on all of its posts this week.

This week, fashion advocacy group Model Alliance issued a statement supporting Mr. Wang’s accusers.

“We at Model Alliance stand in solidarity with those who have shared accusations of sexual abuse by Alexander Wang,” the group stated on Instagram. “Lets be clear: The fashion industry’s lack of transparency and accountability leaves all models vulnerable to abuse, regardless of their sex or gender identity.”

Known for consistently pushing the boundaries of what could be considered high fashion over the course of his 15-year career, Mr. Wang helped usher streetwear and sportswear into the luxury lexicon.

For a time, the American was a young upstart at the design helm of the revered French fashion house Balenciaga. Later, his namesake label pioneered the idea of runway shows as sprawling public spectacles in the earliest days of social media. Often, those events were followed by one of his famous after-parties, where inebriated punters could spray-paint cars, watch strippers writhe while eating Hooters chicken wings or jump on bouncy castles as they rubbed shoulders with celebrity guests.

Hilaria Baldwin always wanted to be considered Spanish: ex-dance partner - Page Six

Hilaria Baldwin was always a Spanish-wannabe — but she really put her foot in her mouth when she changed her name from Hillary, her old dance partner says.

“The whole ‘Hilaria’ thing is hilarious to me,” Alexander Rechits, who competitively danced with the now-embattled yoga-bending celeb from 2006 to 2009, told the New York Times.

Rechits, who knew the 36-year-old American wife of actor Alec Baldwin by her given name, Hillary Hayward-Thomas, said it was clear even then that she wanted to portray herself as something she wasn’t.

“I understand why she did it,” Rechits said in an interview published Wednesday, adding that he considered Hilaria sweet and talented.

“It was always her desire to be considered Spanish,’’ he said.

“She had roots in Spain, her brother lived there, she visited there a lot,’’ he said, referring to the fact that Hilaria’s parents now live in Mallorca and her family would travel to Spain when she was a child.

“But Hillary is a very good strong name, so why would you change that when you were born here and you weren’t born in Spain?” said the Belarus native.

“I have a lot of nicknames in Russian. But I’m still Alexander everywhere I go.”

Hilaria, who has no Spanish ancestry, has been under fire for allegedly misrepresenting herself as Spanish — repeatedly publicly referring to Spain as her “home,” adopting a bad thick Spanish accent at times and failing to correct numerous publications and even one of her official web bios that falsely said she was born on Mallorca.

For her wedding to Alec in 2012, she wore a traditional white Spanish mantilla veil and waved a flamenco fan at her groom at an altar in St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Manhattan, while the pair traded rings inscribed in Spanish and danced to Puerto Rican crooner Luis Miguel.

The lifestyle influencer was forced to take to social media over the weekend to acknowledge she is “a white girl” who was born in Boston, originally named Hillary and went to high school in Massachusetts.

New video shows woman attacking teen she falsely accused of stealing her iPhone at Soho hotel - NBC News

Authorities in New York City released parts of a security camera video Wednesday showing a woman rushing at and attempting to tackle the 14-year-old son of jazz musician Keyon Harrold who she falsely accused of stealing her iPhone that she left in an Uber.

The 10-second clip shows the woman tackling Keyon Harrold Jr. and encircling her arms around him on Saturday in the lobby of the Arlo Soho, an upscale, boutique hotel in New York where Harrold and his son were guests, the hotel said.

The New York City Police Department said Tuesday that the teen's father “sustained scratches to his hand.” No other injuries were reported.

Police said they are searching for the woman and have “positively identified” her, but have not publicly identified her. The incident was not being investigated as a bias incident, according to police. Harrold and his son are Black and have suggested that racial bias played a role in the incident.

On Sunday, Harrold shared the initial minute-long video of the heated exchange on social media. In the video, the woman can be heard accosting the father and son, yelling, “Show me my phone!” A man in the video who identified himself as the hotel manager can also be heard asking to see Harrold Jr.’s phone.

Before the video cuts out, the woman appeared to approach Harrold, prompting the jazz musician to shout: “Get your hands off!”

The video quickly went viral over the weekend, with many on social media accusing the woman and the hotel’s employees of racially discriminating against Harrold and his son.

NBC News has not established the woman’s identity, and it is not clear what happened before or after what's shown in the surveillance footage or Harrold’s video.

The woman told CNN on Tuesday that she was assaulted during the altercation on Saturday, but the network was unable to corroborate her claims with investigators or the hotel. The NYPD and Arlo SoHo did not immediately return NBC News’ request for comment.

The 22-year-old woman said she initially asked another person to “empty their pocket” before confronting Harrold Jr., which CNN was also unable to confirm, according to the network.

The woman said she was concerned about how she was depicted in the video, saying that it wasn’t an accurate portrayal.

“That’s not who I am. I actually… try very hard to make sure that I am always doing the right thing," she said.

CNN did not publicly identify the woman due to safety concerns unrelated to the incident.

She added that she was willing to cooperate with investigators, but she said she has not received a call from authorities and has yet to reach out herself. She also said she’d be willing to speak to the Harrold family.

The woman stopped responding to the network after initially agreeing to provide evidence that would confirm her claim that she was assaulted, according to the network.

Arlo Hotel apologized to the Harrold family on Monday, saying “more could have been done to deescalate the dispute.”

“We’re deeply disheartened about the recent incident of baseless accusation, prejudice and assault against an innocent guest of Arlo hotel,” the hotel said in a statement. “No Arlo guest — or any person — should be subject to this kind of behavior."

“We are committed to making sure this never happens again at any of our hotels,” the hotel said.

Civil rights lawyer Ben Crump, who represents Harrold's family, called on the Manhattan District Attorney to bring assault and battery charges against the woman.

Crump also called for a civil rights investigation into the Arlo Hotel for “implicit bias” in its treatment of the Harrold family.

A spokesperson for the Manhattan DA told NBC News on Monday that the office is "thoroughly investigating this incident."

The jazz musician, accompanied by Crump and Rev. Al Sharpton, spoke out at a press conference on Wednesday.

“I can’t even come downstairs in New York City — prime New York City — and just go brunch without being attacked and wrongfully accused of something,” Harrold said. “The idea of trauma goes above any charge that could ever be had.”

“I want my son to grow up whole,” he said.

Ken Jennings of 'Jeopardy!' apologizes for insensitive tweets - CNN

The past tweets resurfaced after it was announced that Jennings would be the first guest host of "Jeopardy!" following the death of longtime host Alex Trebek in November after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Jennings on Wednesday tweeted, "Hey, I just wanted to own up to the fact that over the years on Twitter, I've definitely tweeted some unartful and insensitive things."
"Sometimes they worked as jokes in my head and I was dismayed to see how they read on screen," he wrote. "In the past, I'd usually leave bad tweets up just so they could be dunked on. At least that way they could lead to smart replies and even advocacy. Deleting them felt like whitewashing a mistake."
He added that by leaving the tweets up he believed he "may have given the impression I stand by every failed joke I've ever posted here." He said that was not the case.
"Sometimes I said dumb things in a dumb way and I want to apologize to people who were (rightfully!) offended," another tweet read. "It wasn't my intention to hurt anyone, but that doesn't matter: I screwed up, and I'm truly sorry."
Some Twitter users responded by sharing some of the now deleted tweets, including one from 2014 in which Jennings wrote "Nothing sadder than a hot person in a wheelchair." He apologized for that tweet in 2018 writing "it was a joke so inept that it meant something very different in my head & I regret the ableist plain reading of it!"
Jennings ended his tweets Wednesday by looking ahead.
"If 2020 has taught us anything, it's that we should be kinder to one another," he wrote. "I look forward to heading into 2021 with that in mind."

Woman who outed Hilaria Baldwin says fake Spanish accent is 'offensive' - Page Six

The social media sleuth who sparked Hilaria Baldwin’s Spanish-accent scandal said in a new interview that the popular yoga guru should “own what she did” — and called her claims of being born in Spain “offensive and wrong.”

The woman, who started a thread Dec. 21 under @LeniBriscoe that questioned Baldwin’s claim she was born in Mallorca, told the Daily Mail that she has few regrets about being behind the brouhaha.

“People were asking me don’t you have anything better to do and the answer is: No I don’t,” she told the news outlet on condition of anonymity. “It’s a pandemic, it’s cold outside and I don’t celebrate Christmas.”

On Monday, she said in her infamous tweet: “You have to admire Hilaria Baldwin’s commitment to her decade long grift where she impersonates a Spanish person.”

Amid the firestorm, Baldwin was forced to admit that despite speaking with a questionable accent and claiming she was born in Spain, she’s actually just a “white girl” from Boston.

The Twitter denizen told the New York Times anonymously Wednesday that she feared going public because Hilaria’s hubby, Alec Baldwin, might beat her up.

Briscoe — who attended the elite Vassar College in upstate New York — slammed Hilaria for claiming she was born in Spain.

“It’s offensive and wrong to pretend you’re an immigrant and that you speak English as a second language and appropriate the actual experience that actual immigrant women have. That’s not what happened,” she told the Daily Mail.

“She made a post saying people at the park think she’s the nanny because her kids are blond and have blue eyes. That is something that happens to moms of color who actually have an accent,” she said.

“That’s offensive, these are hard experiences that people actually have and she pretended. It’s not really necessary. She could be a hot white influencer. Plenty of people do that,” Briscoe added.

She also said that at first, she didn’t realize Baldwin had been impersonating a Spaniard before people found articles in which she spoke about Spanish culture.

“That makes it worse to me,” she told the Daily Mail.

Briscoe also revealed that she has been flooded with messages since her original missive, some of which were not kind.

“Some people said I did it because I’m jealous and uglier. I don’t care if I’m uglier. It seems like a lot of work to look like her,” she told the outlet.

But she also said she “feels some responsibility” for the backlash against Baldwin in social media.

“In this case it was funny but social media can be really cruel and harmful when there’s a pile on when someone does something that people don’t like. I don’t think that’s great,” she said.

“People were saying some cruel and unnecessary things. That bothered me. There are so many things you could criticize Hillary Baldwin for, it’s not necessary to make fun of how many kids she has, that was really offensive to me,” she added.

“It reminded me of when people make fun of Melania Trump for modeling nude. Who cares? That’s not hurting anyone. She’s done other things that you can make fun of,” Briscoe said.

“There are elements of misogyny that come in but it’s important to call people out when they are doing things that are harmful, which I think this was,” she said.

Asked what she’d say to Baldwin, Briscoe said: “I would say she should say sorry to all the immigrants and English second language learners and moms of color who are actually mistaken for their children’s nannies. She should own what she did.”

  • Ken Jennings, who is guest hosting Jeopardy! following the death of Alex Trebek, faced backlash for a 2014 tweet he posted about 'hot' people in wheelchairs
  • He had apologised for the tweet back in 2018, calling in an 'inept' post, but it garnered more attention last month after he was announced as a Jeopardy! host

  • Former contestant Jennings, a 74-time champ, claimed the long-running quiz show's  coveted 'Greatest Of All Time' title in a competition last year

Jeopardy! guest host Ken Jennings has apologised for 'insensitive' tweets he has posted in the past, after he was slammed for making ableist comments.

The 46-year-old quiz champ – who is replacing late television icon Alex Trebek on the game show following his death last month – took to Twitter on Thursday to address previous 'failed' jokes he's made on the micro-blogging platform.

He wrote: 'Hey, I just wanted to own up to the fact that over the years on Twitter, I've definitely tweeted some unartful and insensitive things. Sometimes they worked as jokes in my head and I was dismayed to see how they read on screen.

'But I think that practice may have given the impression I stand by every failed joke I've ever posted here. Not at all!'

Although Jennings didn't refer specifically to any particular posts, he acknowledged he had 'screwed up' and promised to 'be kinder' to others in 2021.

He continued: 'Sometimes I said dumb things in a dumb way and I want to apologize to people who were (rightfully!) offended. It wasn't my intention to hurt anyone, but that doesn't matter: I screwed up, and I'm truly sorry.

One month before his apology, Jennings was the focus of much outrage over a resurfaced tweet he posted in 2014 about 'hot' people in wheelchairs.

'Nothing sadder than a hot person in a wheelchair,' Jennings wrote at the time.

Jennings, who has since deleted the tweet, addressed the insensitive post in 2018, but the message has regained steam in light of his upcoming hosting role.

Jennings said in 2018 he apologised 'personally' to those who reached out to him about the tweet, which he called an 'inept' joke.

'I never did a public flogging thing for this but I did apologise personally to angry/hurt people who reached out personally,' he tweeted at the time.

'It was a joke so inept that it meant something very different in my head & I regret the ableist plain reading of it!'

Actress Yvette Nicole Brown even weighed in on the controversy as she posted a link announcing his guest hosting role. 'Nope,' she tweeted along with the story.

When asked why Yvette disliked the selection, she replied, 'Peep his old tweets and get back at me.'

Jennings was announced as the first of a series of guest hosts replacing Trebek just a few days ago.

An official tweet revealed: 'We will resume production on 11/30 with a series of interim guest hosts from the Jeopardy! family – starting with Ken Jennings. Additional guest hosts to be announced.'

Jennings won 74 games of Jeopardy! in a row and claimed the show's 'Greatest Of All Time' title in a competition last year.

A long-term host for Trebek, who passed away at age 80 following a battle with pancreatic cancer last month, will be named later.

Last month, Jennings paid tribute to Trebek as he was announced as the programme's new guest host.
