LOOK: Logan Paul wins at WrestleMania 38, defeating Rey Mysterio in tag team match - CBS Sports

Logan Paul and The Miz at WWE WrestleMania 38 after beating Rey Mysterio and Dominick Mysterio
WWE

Logan Paul made his professional wrestling debut at WrestleMania 38 and succeeded in defeating the legendary Rey Mysterio. Paul teamed with The Miz to take on the father-son duo of Rey and Dominick Mysterio in a tag team match.

Paul continued in the footsteps of Bad Bunny, Pat McAfee and Stephen Amell by delivering the goods in a celebrity crossover match. The social media superstar relished in the chorus of boos from fans at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Saturday night. He even walked to the ring wearing the world's most expensive Pokémon card around his neck.

Paul's athleticism was on full display as he executed a number of techniques well, including a blockbuster off the middle rope, a powerslam to Dominick and a suplex to Rey.

Paul also took his licks, notably absorbing a double-619 and a frog splash near the bout's conclusion.

The divisive Internet personality sent the crowd into a frenzy by mimicking the mannerisms and moves of the late Eddie Guerrero, a beloved WWE champion and close friend of Rey's.

The Miz took advantage of late match chaos, tagging himself in and planting Mysterio with a Skull Crushing Finale for the win. Paul's celebration was short-lived. The Miz turned on Paul, dropping him with a finisher that instantly switched the crowd's reaction from boos to sheer enthusiasm.

WrestleMania 38 is a two-night event taking place at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington on Saturday, April 2 and Sunday, April 3.

What Will Smith's resignation from the Academy means for the actor - CBS News

When Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars on Sunday, after the comedian joked about Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, he sent shockwaves through the industry. Then, shortly after, Smith went back on stage to accept the Oscar for "Best Actor."

In the days since the incident, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and Smith's peers have condemned his actions. Smith apologized to Rock on Monday, while Rock said during a stand-up show Wednesday night in Boston that he is still processing what happened.

Following his public apology, Smith announced his resignation from the Academy on Friday — and many were left wondering what the resignation would mean for the actor and his future.

What is the Academy – and why do people join?

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences was founded in 1927 and the elite group began putting on the Academy Awards — which dole out the Oscars — in 1929, according to the Academy's website. It currently has 10,000 members who make up 17 branches of the movie-making industry ranging from writers and actors to make-up artists and public relations.

Membership reviews take place once a year in the spring and those hoping to gain access must be sponsored by two members of the Academy currently in the branch they seek admission to. However, Academy Award nominees are automatically considered for membership and do not need sponsorship.

Members of the Academy have access to many perks, including the right to vote for those nominated in their branch and a vote for Best Picture. They also receive exclusive access to screenings of nominated movies.

What does the resignation mean for Smith?

When he resigned from the Academy, Smith gave up those aforementioned perks. His resignation, however, does not mean he will lose his Oscar for his role in "King Richard." He can also be nominated again in the future and be invited back to the ceremony, according to Variety.

But the Academy announced last week it is reviewing the incident and will hold a disciplinary meeting for the actor on April 18. Smith could be sanctioned if he is found to be at fault during the review, but it's not yet clear if the Academy would go as far as to take away the "Best Actor" award he won.

Although several members have been expelled from the Academy in the past, including Harvey Weinstein, few have resigned. According to People, Peter Kurland, an Oscar-nominated sound mixer, and Tom Fleischman, an Oscar-winning recording mixer, resigned last month after the Academy decided to stop airing their portions of the show.

Here Are The ‘Morbius’ Vulture Post-Credits Scenes So You Don’t Have To Watch ‘Morbius’ - Forbes

Netflix Backs Away from Will Smith Film ‘Fast and Loose’ (Exclusive) - Hollywood Reporter

The week before the Oscar ceremony, director David Leitch — in a stroke of unintentional good timing — withdrew as the director of a planned Netflix movie Fast and Loose, starring Will Smith. Instead, he moved onto Fall Guy, starring Ryan Gosling, for Universal, which is supposed to start production in August.

A source says Netflix was competing with Universal to be the next project for Leitch, but Universal pulled ahead. According to sources, Netflix put out an urgent call for another director to take over a project featuring the star who was heavily favored to win best actor at the Oscars. But soon after Smith’s attack on Chris Rock on the Oscars stage, Netflix quietly moved the project to the back burner.

Fast and Loose was to tell the story of a crime boss who loses his memory after an attack. Piecing together clues, he discovers that he has led a double identity as a wealthy kingpin and a broke CIA agent. It appears that Netflix was understandably wary of moving forward. It is unclear whether it will try to make the project with another star and director.

Smith now has Apple+’s slave escape drama Emancipation in post-production. The streamer had planned a 2022 debut but has not dated its release. Apple declined to comment. Otherwise, Bad Boys 4 at Sony had been in active development — Smith received 40 pages of the script prior to the Oscars — but will now pause, a source said. A few other projects in pre-production are likely to do the same. Netflix did not respond to requests for comment.

In his April 1 statement resigning from the Academy, Smith said, “Change takes time and I am committed to doing the work to ensure that I never again allow violence to overtake reason.”

Smith, Gosling and Leitch are all CAA clients.

Denzel Washington Weighs In on Will Smith Slap: ‘Who Are We to Condemn?’ - Variety

After consoling Will Smith after Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars, Denzel Washington has now spoken publicly about what happened at last Sunday’s awards show.

Washington attended author and bishop T.D. Jakes’ leadership summit on Saturday morning for a discussion about his career and faith when Jakes asked him about what happened between Smith and Rock at the Oscars.

“Well, there’s a saying, ‘When the devil ignores you, then you know you’re doing something wrong.’ The devil goes, ‘Oh no, leave him alone, he’s my favorite.’ Conversely, when the devil comes at you, maybe it’s because he’s trying to do something right. And for whatever reason the devil got ahold of that circumstance that night,” Washington told Jakes on stage.

Washington was seen speaking to Smith, along with Tyler Perry and Smith’s publicist, during the commercial breaks at the Oscars after Smith slapped Rock for making a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith. During his acceptance speech for best actor, Smith thanked Washington and said that Washington told him, “At your highest moment, be careful, that’s when the devil comes for you.”

“Fortunately there were people there. Not just me, but others, Tyler Perry, came immediately right over there with me. [Said] some prayers. I don’t wanna say what we talked about, but there but for the grace of God go any of us. Who are we to condemn? I don’t know all the ins and outs of the situation, but I know the only solution was prayer, the way I see it,” Washington said on Saturday.

Smith’s public fallout over the slap has turned into the biggest crisis of his career. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences launched an investigation into the assault this week, and on Friday Smith resigned from the Academy’s membership.

“The list of those I have hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, all those in attendance, and global audiences at home,” Smith said in a statement Friday. “I betrayed the trust of the Academy. I deprived other nominees and winners of their opportunity to celebrate and be celebrated for their extraordinary work. I am heartbroken.”

At his first stand-up show since the slap, Rock spoke about the incident in Boston, saying that he’s still “processing what happened” and will fully discuss it at a later time.

“I don’t have a bunch of shit about what happened, so if you came to hear that, I have a whole show I wrote before this weekend,” Rock said at Wednesday night’s show. “I’m still kind of processing what happened. So, at some point I’ll talk about that shit. And it will be serious and funny.”

Correction: Washington’s quotes were updated for clarity.

Bill Maher Blames "Toxic Femininity" For Will Smith Oscars Slap On 'Real Time' - Decider

Last night on Real Time with Bill Maher, the inevitable topic of Will Smith‘s Oscars slap came up and boy did the HBO host have plenty to say. After all, it’s the only thing Hollywood has been talking about for nearly a week now.

“Thank you all for coming and putting on a brave face,” Maher said as he opened the show with his monologue. “To Will Smith: stay strong and I got your back.”

Maher paused for a second. “April Fools. You’re a dick.”

He then threw a few jabs at the actor who sucker slapped Chris Rock at this year’s Oscars ceremony for a “G.I. Jane” joke about his wife Jada’s shaved head due to an alopecia condition. “I’m not here to humiliate Will Smith. He gets enough of that at home.”

“Every single person in America was talking about the sucker punch heard ’round the world,” acknowledged Maher. “That whole ‘Keep my wife’s name out of your mouth’ didn’t really work out.”

Although the on-stage physical confrontation happened so fast, Maher noted “there was more action in three seconds than in three hours of The Power of the Dog.”

He added, “Who would have thought the movie coming out of the Oscars with all the buzz was G.I. Jane.”

Maher then scoffed at backlash about Rock’s joke, saying that comparing a woman to Demi Moore at her hottest was not a huge insult. “Alopecia is not leukemia,” he said. “I blame toxic femininity.”

Of course, there were more important things going on in the world this week. “But we don’t care about that,” Maher joked.

The host later brought up the topic during his panel with Laura Coates, CNN Senior Legal Analyst, and Andrew Yang, where it was concluded that liberal hypocrisy seemed to take center stage at the Oscars.

Coates was in disbelief that Smith received a standing ovation for winning the Best Actor award moments after his slap. “I thought, ‘Why is he even there to get the award?” She added that a civilian wouldn’t be able to hang around after an incident like that with a hypothetical excuse such as “Oh, no. I got the rest of my kid’s soccer game.”

Yang added that “part of it was he’s Will Smith. Anyone else would have been ushered out.”

Lastly Maher mentioned that he had talked to an African American friend at the Vanity Fair party and another guest posed a scenario in which Rock responded to the slap by fighting back. “He couldn’t,” Maher’s friend said. “He had the whole race on his shoulders.”

You can check out Maher’s opening monologue above and catch new episodes of Real Time with Bill Maher on Fridays at 10:00 p.m. EST on HBO.
